v2.2.0 highlights, in one video

A walkthrough of ESP-Mesh-Lite 2.2.0 new features and optimizations — networking, healing, provisioning, and related improvements.

02Architecture

Tree expansion, transparent to apps

Each node acts as SoftAP and Station, forming a multi-hop tree. Parents forward at the network layer so children reach the internet like a normal Wi-Fi client.

  • Neighbors mesh multi-hop for wider reach
  • Node count is not capped by one AP
  • Independent IPs with transparent forwarding

03Capabilities

Protocol does the hard part. Apps stay simple.

Self-organizing, self-healing, independent internet access, and zero-provision expansion are built in — you still integrate your own app, but with far less Mesh complexity than traditional approaches.

MESH01

Self-form · self-heal

Auto parent selection and reconnect; root can also form a mesh without a router.

CONTROL02

Single & group control

Each node has its own IP and can connect to servers via Socket, MQTT, or HTTP; parents are transparent at the app layer. Servers can authenticate and control every node individually — or run tight, low-latency group control.

ZERO03

Zero-provision expand

After provisioning, zero-config can onboard devices in bulk — credentials sync in seconds.

SECURITY04

Security & enterprise Wi-Fi

Root station supports WPA2/WPA3 Enterprise; SoftAP uses standard WPA2; inter-node traffic can use AES, with additional app-layer crypto as needed.

OTA05

LAN OTA · bulk file delivery

LAN OTA cuts total upgrade time significantly on large meshes.

ECOSYSTEM06

Cloud & Matter

Works with ESP RainMaker or any third-party cloud; the root can act as a Matter Bridge so child nodes join the Matter fabric.

04Scenarios

Group control at site scale

Built for verticals that need large local meshes with cloud or LAN control.

01

Smart home

Lights, sensors, and gateways cover the whole house with independent cloud access.

02

Agriculture / irrigation

Wide-area nodes with group control and batch OTA maintenance.

03

Solar & charging

Dense site networks; root can join enterprise upstream Wi-Fi.

04

Grow lights / commercial lighting

MQTT scenes and zero-provision expansion for fixtures.

05Performance

Office benchmarks, predictable scale

Measured with v2.2.0 in an open office.

Results depend on configuration and environment; field numbers may differ.
